How WaistCoats Direct started.

Waist Coats Direct is owned and ran by Denise Byrd, trading for the last 18 years.

Denise started making her own clothes at the age of 12, she went on to study fashion and design after leaving school.

Her first job in the 70’s was working for a local dressmaker called Busy Lizzie who made ladies bespoke garments.

Then in 1987 Denise moved back to London to start working for Zandra Rhodes. Where she made a beautiful silk dresses for the rich and famous. After leaving London to move back to Somerset, Denise got a job working for a company called Marquee who made and designed couture wedding dresses for Harrods and liberties of London.

After Marquee closed 20 years ago, Denise started making wedding dresses for local brides adverting locally and selling made to measure wedding dresses at local wedding fairs. After meeting her partner Dave who saw the talent in Denise decided to help her move the business from local to the internet.

David who was a talented computer programmer created the website/business side of things Denise designed and created the dresses.

The product slowly developed into designing and making men’s bespoke waistcoats after brides asked us to make matching waistcoats and accessories for the groom and their guests.

Sadly, Dave has passed away and Denise has taken on the role of running the whole business.

And that’s how waistcoat direct started their business and how it’s developed.

Waistcoat direct has now been making bespoke made-to-measure waistcoats online for 18 years, every waistcoat is individually made to measure for the customer.

Denise Byrd and Waist Coats Direct have featured in many famous magazines along the way, Vogue, Tattler. Wedding and Home, You and your wedding, Bride and Groom, Bridal Buyer, Bliss magazine.
