Here is news about our new, distinctive Mr. B piped waistcoat. The blazer-style piped silk waistcoat has two real pockets and bold contrasting colours and buttons.

We have designed five strong contrasting colour combinations with which you can make an impact: Black with White, White with Navy Blue, Gold with Cream, Navy with White, Grey with Black.
They have a unique and cleverly designed piped pocket and seam detail. Be different with a minimalist, tasteful style.
Distinctive handmade covered buttons.
The strong outlines are designed to make you look slimmer.
The waistcoat is made in beautiful 100% Silk Dupion.

There’s an optional matching tie which has a contrasting piped edge. An optional handkerchief is available with a different colour on each side. All our items are designed and made in Yeovil, Somerset, UK and only available on this website.

Getting Ready For Royal Ascot

Having a waistcoat individually made for you is the only way to ensure a comfortable fit that looks smart. But don’t leave it too late to order your waistcoat for Ascot.

Royal Ascot is the premier meeting of the racing season. Known as the place to dress up and enjoy the style in a pageant of escapist fun. What attendees are wearing is seen by the media, press and TV. The flamboyant hats of Ladies Day are dissected by über-fashionistas as well as the millions of TV viewers. All this is carried off with a typical British sense of humour.

The hospitality boasts award winning cuisine and elegant service for discerning clientele. From private boxes to corporate hospitality. Trying to define the atmosphere is like attempting to tattoo soap bubbles.

The Betting

There are 30 races to bet on during the 5-day festival. Studying the betting form can lead to permutations as endless as a scheme for joining the stars. Winners erupt like Eyjafjallajokull, losers deflate like Dali’s watches. ( I refuse to use similes like a fat kid refuses cake. )

For this year’s Ascot here’s wishing you collect winners like Nabokov collected butterflies.

The discerning gentlemen’s eye will wonder from the horses to the ladies. Especially the fashion goddesses: 24-carat gold spray tan, thinner than a brace of Armani models in a trouser press, hats that look as though they’ve made a forced landing.

Royal Tradition

It’s Royal Ascot because of the patronage of the Queen who is a keen supporter of racing and owns racehorses. It’s worth realising the event has traditions dating back three hundred years to 1711.

Dress Code

There’s a strict dress code. For gentlemen, waistcoats are de rigueur. Sports clothes are strictly forbidden.

In the Royal Enclosure, gentlemen have to wear either black or grey morning dress, including a waistcoat, with a top hat. Gentleman may remove his top hat within a restaurant, private box or private club.

Let’s face it black or grey morning dress doesn’t give much scope for individuality. So that’s were getting a waistcoat for Ascot specially made pays off.

Waistcoats Direct’s Mr. UK Waistcoat in Tatler Magazine & Debutante Couture Convention – Le Bal de Crillon, Paris

Our Mr UK waistcoat is featured on Page 174 of the March edition of Tatler magazine. The editorial article is entitled Dangerous Liaisons. The photo location is Salon Marie-Antoinette, Place de la Concorde, Paris.

There you will find an amusing account of a deb ball in Paris. The prestigious Le Bal des Debutantes (more popularly known as The Crillon Ball) is a glitzy charity event where 24 gorgeous young ladies make their début, dressed in the finest couture gowns and flanked by handsome aristocratic cavaliers.

Of the 24 debutants most attention was focused on Princess Diana’s niece Kitty Spencer, daughter of Earl Spencer. If you are looking for royalty with real glamour this is your girl. Beautiful, Royal + those Spencer genes, 19 years old, unattached… eligibility off the scale. Her début was like a sunbeam entering a tinsel factory. It was decided that the event wouldn’t be her Dad’s bag so he was left behind in Althorp.

The Tatler’s very own Richard Dennen was kind enough to modeled our waistcoat. His article shows off his wicked sense of humour, such as describing the deb scene where girls are ‘picked out like racehorses for their legs and breeding.’ The ladies were all ‘daughter of’ someone famous or aristocratic.

The press photos show Richard proudly flying the flag for Britain. His patriotic take on the event is one of national rivalries for the prize of press attention. Foreign debutants scratching at gilt doors to get into the coolest photoshoot.

Top totem on the USA team was Clint Eastwood’s daughter, Francesca. The British team played their ace in the form of the Hon. William Pelham as a suitable match for Miss Eastwood. The young aristocrat had to be extracted from his studies at Eton to literally ‘play’ for his country. We will have to kit out young William in our Mr. USA/UK waistcoat when he gets his invite to the Eastwood ranch in Carmel, California to further his ‘special relationship’.

They say beauty comes from within ( within jars, tubes and bottles!) but at the Crillon Ball it is definitely on the the outside as well: a Shangri-la of competing beauties.

But by the end of the evening, peace and international entente was declared with the liberal flowing of champagne. It is well know that our best diplomats can’t function without champagne.
